2022.01.18 23:24 _sonwukong Cheap/affordable car insurance
Hi all. I’m a 21 year old looking for a new car insurance company, as my policy is expiring in February. I’ve been using Geico and was paying about $1200 for 6 months, but now they increased the price to $1500. Even worse, I looked at my policy more closely and realized that I was covered for comprehensive excluding collision, meaning had I gotten into an accident in the past 6 months, they would’ve only given me about $1000!?!?! I was understandably furious. If that $1500 renewal is without collision coverage, I don’t even want to see what the cost is with collision coverage. That being said, does anyone know of any insurance companies that might be able to offer me a lower rate with collision coverage? I was thinking more local companies but am open to suggestions regarding national companies too. Thanks

2022.01.18 23:24 Spectral_Sin Borderline Personality Disorder Viewed Through the Jungian Lens
First thing's first, credit where credit's due: https://www.reddit.com/JordanPeterson/comments/cx02yk/bpd_treatable_in_jungian_terms/
This is the post that outlines the basis of what I will be expanding upon.
I have a theory regarding the nature of BPD viewed through the lens of Jungian psychology. Most of what I theorize will have been explained in the above post, I just wish to expand upon the theory's implications and share how they relate to my own personal experience with BPD. I'm curious if anyone can relate to what I believe may be the mechanisms behind Borderline Personality Disorder.
Disclaimer: I am not formally educated in Jungian psychology, nor psychology in general. I've accrued this knowledge in an effort to make sense of my own psyche, and I hope any errors related to my understanding of analytical psychology will be called out.
Quick crash course on Jungian Psychology:
Jungian psychology divides the psyche into a few parts:
The Conscious: The waking mind, consisting of all the content of which you are currently aware of: emotions, thoughts, sensory input, etc.
The Personal Unconscious: The collection of everything subliminal, forgotten or repressed in an individual's life. This is also where one's shadow exists, along with other complexes and autonomous emotional patterns and subconscious sensory input.
The Collective Unconscious: Similar to the personal unconscious, but universal in nature. It is the primordial bedrock of specieal memories upon which consciousness originally developed. Home to the archetypes.
Now—generally speaking—the Ego complex is commonly described interchangeably with the conscious as it is the center from which we govern our psyches and behavior, and synonymous with the perspective from which we experience our psyche. It receives information from both our outer world and inner experience, ideally synthesizing this information into a perspective that takes both our emotional states and physical situations into account in order to navigate life. In childhood, however, the Ego complex has not yet differentiated itself from the unconscious. This is why the experience and behavior of children is more or less completely identified with their inner, emotional experiences. During a child's natural development, the Ego complex should—ideally—emerge from the unconscious and differentiate itself in order to navigate life from the proper perspective, giving consideration to your physical, outer reality as well as your inner, emotional experience. What I believe may be the case in individuals with BPD is that the Ego complex never properly differentiated itself from the personal unconscious, leading to a perspective that is "trapped" within the unconscious and violently buffeted by the emotional content therein, content that it is unable to process clearly. As an example: If one were to ask a football player what exactly just happened during a play, the answer would be muddled and distorted. The player had been among the mass of bodies and chaos occurring on the field. On the contrary, the coach standing on the side of the field would be able to give you a far better account of what had happened during the play, or better yet the announcers. This is the difference between an Ego Complex ensconced in the unconscious vs one that has differentiated to its proper seat in the center. An undifferentiated Ego complex may also account for BPD's identity disturbances. If the Ego complex is the seat from which one perceives one's psyche, an Ego complex that has failed to differentiate itself from the unconscious would have difficulty perceiving one's identity, as one's identity is dependent upon how one relates to one's outer world as much as one's inner emotional content. It is the dynamic between the two that allows for the holistic appraisal we call "identity." Our perceptions are based upon duality, the contrast of opposites. Without one, the other cannot exist within our perceptions. Emptiness can also be explained by the buried Ego. Unless we are experiencing an emotional extreme or something intensely physical, the resulting calmness and serenity within is perceived as boredom, emptiness—a complete void. Now in Jungian psychology the unconscious and one's inner world is symbolic of the Mother archetype, a "womb" in a way. It is "safe" to stay inside where one doesn't necessarily need to interface with the unknown, outer world. This is our initial experience as infants. In an ideal parental dynamic however, the Father archetype would be the one to draw one's Ego complex away from the inner womb of the Mother, and teach it to interface properly with the reality of outer difficulties (through tough lessons, real-world experiences, etc.). This would lead to a healthily differentiated Ego complex with proper perspective. This aligns fairly well with my own personal experience. I am male, and find myself overly identifying with energies within myself more associated with a scared child submissive to the whims of an overbearing Motherly unconscious. I have serious difficulty in interfacing with my outer world, and something within me oftentimes retreats "inside", i.e. my Ego complex retreats to the womb of the unconscious, which is partly an instinctual defense mechanism, but which leaves it terribly vulnerable to the storm of emotions that reside there. My father figure was largely absent, and usually submissive. I did not have a proper "masculine" archetype to imprint off of, to challenge me, and my Ego complex never learned to differentiate and interface properly. It remains skittish. In these instances of agitated retreat, the Ego complex would be so overwhelmed with emotional content that it is essentially being dictated to rather than being presented with information from which to formulate a strategy. It's hard to plan an escape route from a fire when you're already on fire. Essentially, I identify with my emotional content and very little else since it is the only thing I'm experiencing loud and clear. This can also account for my vehement hatred for feeling "trapped" somewhere. Work is a nightmare, long lines are a nightmare, being on hold is a nightmare... the Ego complex has built up an unconscious resentment to being "trapped" anywhere and consequently I build up anxiety whenever I find myself obligated to be anywhere for any lengthy amount of time.
Given all these observations are valid, a possible solution to my BPD can be this: I need to start being my own father. I need to fulfill the role and instill in myself the principles and archetypal values of the "Father," in a mindful way. As a child this is nearly impossible, but as a mindful adult capable of insight, it may very well be possible to foster an inner dialogue with that archetypal energy. This voice can then be deferred to whenever needed. There is a Jungian technique called active imagination, a sort of meditative dialogue with your inner psychological components. It is utilized to gain a better understanding of your inner workings—quite literally by finally acknowledging and listening to the multitude of inner voices all vying for attention. It may seem comical, but it's like having a board meeting with your brain and gaining the perspective of these different energies. In the same way, you can access energies you certainly possess, but have yet to acknowledge by imagining an ideal father image (even fictional, like Aragorn for example) and "speaking" to it. You'd be surprised the wisdom you're willing to accept when it comes from someone else's mouth. Believe me, if Arnold Schwarzenegger told me not to have that last drink, I'd listen.
This is—of course—specific to me. I realize not everyone has had the same experiences in their youth, but I'm curious as to whether or not this resonates with anyone else.
Also a disclaimer: I do not wish to put forward the idea that a Mother cannot fill the role of a Father, or vice versa. I simply stress the importance of having a balance of certain values that appear on the Masculine/Feminine spectrum.

2022.01.18 23:24 oopiedaisie housemate not respecting boundaries
i (20F) have been having issues with my housemate (22M) for some time now. he often makes sexually inappropriate remarks about me and my appearance. initially this was all it was but it's been getting worse. if we happen to be in the same room he will go out of his way to be near me and get in my personal space - just to be "annoying". we often go as a group to clubs on nights out, and whilst i try to stay away from him he will seek me out and will manage to brush against my butt and occasionally grab my waist. he will only stop if other people see me physically push him away. even at home he will tease me and poke the back of my thigh, face or even grab the back of my neck; if i go to literally slap him he will grab my wrist and laugh it off like im just messing around. there was one time i was sat on the sofa next to him lying curled up on my side and all the guys were playing FIFA, and when he won he turned to me and literally smacked the side of my hip/butt really hard and NO-ONE noticed??? he's usually extremely careful to only be weird when it's just me and him, and whilst i tell my other housemates about it they just don't really get it because they're not seeing it first hand.
he knows i hate everything he's doing, he knows it makes me extremely uncomfortable. at least that's what i said to him and of course he played it off like i was just joking around. i really don't know what to do, i've asked him to stop, i've tried to ask my friends for help with him, i don't know what else to do. i can't afford to live anywhere else until this year is over. any advice would be really appreciated.

2022.01.18 23:24 HansHou01 Non-allowed subject already taken but need to take the core subject
I just enrolled in the master of software engineering@unimelb, I prefer to take the artificial intelligence specialization, COMP90049 Introduction to machine learning is a core subject for that specialization, however, I have already taken the "non-allowed"/conflict subject COMP30027 machine learning during my bachelor degree, that leads to the core subject is not available for me to choose, what should I do to take the AI specialization? Could I get the credit since I have finished the overlapped course? Thanks.

2022.01.18 23:24 ragtime_sam Anyone in the DC metro/nova area?
For the longest time I've been looking for chronic illness support groups in the area, and been disappointed by the results. There are 2-3 advertised, but neither have members or are active.
So I'm just kind of putting out feelers to see if anyone would be interested in forming a local group, perhaps with the eventual goal of meeting in person once the pandemic lessens. About me, I am a 29 y/o M engineer with dysautonomia working part-time at home.

“Rise of avatars”- don’t get it confused as another franchise of the much famous Avatar movie series. Avatar is what the future of gaming looks like. Excited enough? Let’s throw some more light on what exactly we are talking about.
How exciting does the idea of having your own digital wardrobe to dress your avatar sound like? Hell yeah! Pretty exciting to us. Well, the possibility of having your own avatars is headed towards becoming a reality with the culmination of metaverse and gaming. Before that, what exactly is a digital avatar? Well pretty much resonating with its essence in hindu culture, avatar means incarnated divine personality, in metaverse it’s a digital manifestation of the user, in more simpler terms, a representation of you in the digital world. Fun part, you can design your avatar just the way you want to, without any inhibitions. The avatars are already being used in 260 games and apps with people creating their own custom avatars. Our virtual selves are just getting warmed up!
Getting our digital selves all decked up: Human psychology driving another multi-billion-dollar industry
We’d be lying if we say we don’t care about how we present ourselves and how we are looked at. Humans crave to stand out and their personality plays a major role in it. Human nature is the same whether in the digital world or “in real life”, we spend on ourselves to flatter the crowd we are part of. Inside a virtual world, this is the driving force why approximately 2.5 billion people have spent over $100 billion1 on digital goods. So much so for flattery!
This creates an entire new market and ecosystem for gamers and opportunities for people targeting this ecosystem.
How do we own/buy these digital assets?
NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) once only known to tech-geeks are set to go mainstream as they become an integral part of the gaming ecosystem. NFTs are digital items whose certificate of authenticity and ownership are registered on blockchain, making them exclusive and unique. Given the collectible nature of NFTs, they are easy to integrate into games where amassing objects or points is an integral fun part. They allow ownership and transferability of digital assets. With people spending crazy to buy “skins” or visual enhancements for their digital avatars in the form of outfits or weapons, it creates an unique opportunity for digital artists who can create NFTs of their designs and claim ownership of and authenticate their skins.
Also, unlike non-NFT digital assets which usually get locked in one game, NFTs allow transferability of these digital assets across multiple games, saving gamers money leading them to shell out more on NFT enabled customization of their avatars.
Play to earn games: Allowing gamers to use their NFTs to interact with the game
Metaverse has opened a gateway to port real world assets and services into a virtual decentralized environment. Play to earn gaming model has the potential to further enhance this gateway by empowering players of blockchain games. NFTs allow gamers to take part in financial in-game economies and get rewarded for the value they bring to the game, essentially earning while playing.
Kirana disrupting the play to earn gaming model
While there are multiple play to earn models that have been launched, we are going to talk about one of the most innovative one in the market, Kirana. Kirana is a full-fledged MMORPG game with its own metaverse where players will be able to start playing by buying their in-game character as NFT. These NFTs are minted or brought from a secondary marketplace by the players and are the gaming characters to play with. So, moving one step ahead Kirana lets you buy an entire character as NFT compared to buying NFT as digital enhancement objects.
The characters will be from varied classes and bring different in game powers which can be upgraded by leveling up. They will also be equipped with weapons, stats (digital world, you see!) and skills which are to be used strategically by the players to get into a grueling competition with other gamers.
While it’s evident that blockchain, NFTs, metaverse will continue to infiltrate the gaming ecosystem, it’s going to be interesting to see how different play to earn models add more value to this ecosystem.
Our absolute dynamic team at Kirana has a robust technology and roadmap in place. We are psyched to offer an immersive gaming experience to our users while also helping them to benefit financially. Stay tuned for more updates!
